Digital Makeup

Digital makeup began with Gait analysis. This is a medical analysis to look at the way people walk to see if anything is wrong. It uses infared sensors and cameras to record all the movements from that person.

20 - Gait Analysis

This then developed into Sports Analysis. This is looking at the way sports people move (golf, football etc.) to correct and improve their technique.

21 - Sports Analysis
CGI has been developing for years in the film industry. From Westword (1973) using 2D computer digitalized images to Total Recall using motion capture for CGI.

This rise of CGI effects a lot of people in the film industry:
- Makeup
- Costume
- Acting
- Creature FX
- Set Building
- Props

Advances:
Mocap and Percap (motion capture and performance capture) began to be used in recent years to capture movements of the face the same way Gait analysis captured movements on the body.
It started of with about 60 dots around the face to capture movement then advanced to 6 million dots (done using flecks of fluorescent paint)

22 - Avatar performance capture

23 - Davy Jones, Pirates of the Carribean
Digital makeup has a lot of implications for makeup artists nowadays. Lots of characters who are very complex which would have once been done with makeup are now done with special effects afterwards. Even fashion makeup nowadays can be done digitally.
