Silicone Eye Bag

Although I was very happy with my gelatin eyebag I also wanted to try one in silicone as this is the classic flat piece material. I was worried due to the fact to melt a silicone piece away you have to use IPA which can be quite harsh around the eyes but I wanted to try to see the effect. I used three layers of cap plastic in the bottom of the mold followed by a 150% softened mixture of silicone (1A + 1B + 1.5C = 150%) I chose this percentage as the under eye area is extremely soft and fleshy and it also tends to move a lot so needs something which will move a lot too. From my earlier experiments with silicone I found that 200% was too soft so I thought that 150% would work well, I then put two more layers of cap plastic over the back

From these photos it can be seen that the eyebag turned out too pink. Whilst making them I accidentally poured too much flocking into the mixture causing them to go too pink for the skin. However as this was a practice to see if the material worked well I decided not to make new ones. To fit it to the eye I cut the top part of the cap plastic away so the top half of the eyebag had nothing to blend and could stick directly underneath the eye.

Again this eye bag was measured to my models eye so it was not going to fit properly in this practice. However overall I was extremely happy with the effect of the piece. I think it blended extremely well into the skin and is undetectable in some places. I also think the shape looks very natural from far away and if it was coloured correctly would blend in very well. Using the IPA around the eye also did not irritate my models skin or eye as I thought it would so it is a more feasible option for the assessment. As I have been happy with both this and my geltain eyebagI have decided to make one eyebag of each material for the formative assessment and make a final decision when I can see how the makeup works as a whole.
