Silicone Chin Piece

I tried out out a silicone chin piece in preparation for my formative assessment as I had only tried a gelatin piece. I put 5 layers of cap plastic in the bottom of the mold followed by a 50% softened silicone mixture (1A + 1B + 0.5C = 50%). I did this because again a chin is quite bony and not too fleshy so although it needed to be soft enough to move naturally with the chin it needed to be relatively hard. I then put 3 layers of cap plastic over the top of the silicone.

When I took the piece out the mold the cap plastic had peeled away from the silicone leaving it bare. This meant I had to paint a few new layers of the top of the chin when it was out the mold to ensure it held together.

Overall I was not too happy with how the chin applied. I didn't use my Kizzy so the chin piece didn't fit properly as Kizzy has a very small chin. I also lost a lot of my blending edge so it had a very obvious edge in some places. I did not put the chin on straight enough so it developed quite a few wrinkles right at the front that make it extremely obvious. Next time I do this I need to apply the chin a lot straighter and I need to be more careful with my mold so I get a better blending edge. However although I wasn't happy with the appliance I prefer the silicone chin to the gelatin one as again I think it looks much more skin like and a better hardness. Therefore I will be using this material in my assessments.
